Where does your thini me live?

Where does your thini me live?

I started thinking about this last night. My older daughter who just turned 8 got a new bike for her birthday. We went for a ride last night through our neighborhood, up to her school and back and then on the nature trail that winds through the woods following the creek behind our house. I was for sure having an “I love my neighborhood” moment. It is exactly where I’d picture Gabriella living. I, of course, have her in a bit bigger and fancier house, more updated, with a fresh coat of paint and all new landscaping (I mean, really, whose house is perfect?) but it would be located right here. In this very spot.
As we pulled behind our house on the trail we noticed a new tire swing hitched to the biggest tree in the field behind our house. So we pedaled home quickly and got my younger daughter whose 5 and ran out to the swing where the girls took turns with me pushing. It was a gorgeous night and stopped to breathe it all in, when we heard the noise:
DING DING DING and then the girls: ICE CREAAAAAAAM MAAAAAAAAN! And I told them “hurry! stop him!” and we all rant to the front of the house. My husband came out to the driveway with money and somehow, without getting swept up in the moment, I remembered Gabriella. She would say “Ice cream truck ice cream is for the kids! Let them enjoy the moment and watch them making memories.” And it was simple, I passed on my own treat and instead breathed in the perfect summer night. Right here in my neighborhood. Right where Gabriella is happy to live. And me, too.
Where goes your thini me want to live? How can you make your living space more like that place?

What’s your currency?

What's your currency?

I love to play tennis. I mean LOVE. From the way I feel on the court (especially when I’m winning!) to the power of a really good serve, I love it. I am secretly a preppy girl at heart, so I even love the tennis skirt, the clothes, a preppy old prince racquet and stark white visor. And guess what? My weight is holding me back from being the tennis player I know I can be.
See, Gabriella (my thini me, see this post for more on that if you’re not following) ROCKS at tennis. She’s on a tencap team and plays 2-3 times per week. Her white skirt looks great on her tan legs and her sculpted, muscular ams grip the racquet firmly as she effortlessly and flawlessly navigates quickly around the court.
Her game is more important to her than nibbling on dinner past stoppin time, or last night’s cocktails or even birthday cake. She rather win and enjoy her game.
I am Gabriella. And someday I will enjoy all of the benefits. What’s your currency? What is important to you that your weight is keeping you from? I have loads more things, but this is one that stands out to me today. I’d love for you to tell me in the comments: what is yours?

Butterfly garden

Butterfly garden

I had to share this fun and colorful, festive and super easy way to start flowers that will attract butterflies to your garden!

(Psst…these are at the Mommy Shop in Overland Park, but go quick: there are only 4 and one got snapped up yesterday! If you are interested, but not local, you can always email me at laurengoldman (at) sbcglobal.net!

Butterfly Garden Worshop this Saturday at the Mommy Shop

It’s time for another super-fun Sunnyseed Garden Workshop this Sunday at the Mommy Shop in Overland Park. I am super-excited for this one as we’re going to be planting Butterfly Gardens! Here’s all the info:

If you are looking for not only a fun Saturday project, but something that will be fun, educational and rewarding — providing entertainment all summer long — Sunnyseed Garden Kits are perfect for you! They are the perfect way to teach kids about gardening, nature, the value of playing outdoors and the miracle of growing a plant from a tiny seed. We are excited to be offering a Gardening Workshop this Saturday at the Mommy Shop from 10-12. We are having a hands-on gardening activity to keep the kids busy with a take-home project to last for months to come.

This week we are planting a Butterfly Garden! We will plant special varieties of seeds that attract butterflies, and all of the kits will come with special Butterfly Magic Wands for waving and wishing our baby seeds well.

Butterfly Garden Workshop Includes:
A flower pot
Dirt (actually Miracle Grow potting soil, but what kid doesn’t love to play in the dirt?!)
Seeds (specifically for flowers that attract butterflies to your garden)
A special butterfly magic wand (to wish our seeds well!)
Butterfly Garden Journal (a special journal to keep track of not only your flowers, but the butterflies who visit you)
We will plant together, talking about taking care of a plant almost like a pet. What to expect to see when your seedling pops up (and how soon!) and why taking care of the Earth is so important. Children will take home their new plants (along with a special garden journal!) to keep track of their plant’s progress.
Cost: $12 (Special Offer for Workshop participants, Reg. Price $15)
We hope to see you there!

Hot off the presses: Sunnyseed Garden Journals

Hot off the presses: Sunnyseed Garden Journals

These darling little garden journals are a fun and easy way for kids to keep track of their gardening efforts this summer. Great for all ages, they include a drawing and a writing with words entry options and even a little pep talk on the back!

The back cover reads:
“We are so proud of you for watering, caring for and talking to your new plant friend. You are responsible for another living thing and you are doing great! It is a big job and we want to hear all about it. Please visit
http://www.sunnyseedgarden.com and register your plant, add a photo or a drawing and tell us all about your new hobby — gardening!

The best part is that the journals are FREE to participants of my gardening workshops for kids. The next workshop is scheduled for tomorrow! Sat., June 1 from 10-12 at the Mommy Shop in Overland Park.
